Building Fire Alarm Results in Discovery of Vehicle Fire

Fairfield (NJ) On October 6, 2017, at approximately 8:44 P.M., the Fairfield police were contacted regarding a fire alarm activation at 26 Law Drive. This location is occupied by multiple businesses. Officer James High Jr. was dispatched and observed a heavy smoke condition coming from the building. The Fairfield Fire Department was immediately dispatched.

The fire department entered the structure and determined that the fire was attributed to a 2012 GMC van that was on fire and parked inside the warehouse belonging to Fleetwash. The fire was kept in check because of the building’s fire suppression system. It was then fully extinguished by the fire department.

The Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau is taking the opportunity, based upon this fire, to emphasize the importance for building owners to keep their fire suppression systems well maintained and inspected. “This could have been a really bad fire had it not been for the sprinkler system” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.

Assisting Fairfield were the West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Pine Brook, Wayne, Caldwell, Cedar Grove and Lincoln Park Fire Departments as well as the West Essex First Aid Squad.
