Fairfield Police Honor Quick Thinking Citizen

Fairfield (NJ) At the November 27, 2017 meeting of the Fairfield Mayor and Council, Chief Anthony G. Manna presented Jeffrey Millelot, an employee of Fairfield Maintenance which is located on Fairfield Road, with a plaque to commemorate his quick thinking and the assistance he rendered to first responders at the scene of a motorcycle crash on November 21, 2017

On that date, at approximately 5:30 P.M., Fairfield police, fire and EMS were all dispatched to a motor vehicle crash near 418 Fairfield Road, involving a 1985 Honda motorcycle being operated by Benjamin Karcher (27) of Montclair, N.J. and a 2003 Ford being operated by Iwona Domitrz (30) of Fairfield, N.J. The first officers on the scene observed Karcher was trapped underneath the middle of the undercarriage of the Ford. Karcher was alert and conscious but was complaining of difficulty breathing.

It was at this time that Mr. Millelot approached one of the officers and offered to bring a forklift from his work yard to assist in lifting the SUV off of Karcher. As a result of his actions, critical time was saved and allowed first responders and EMS to begin medical treatment on Karcher much sooner. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

"Very often, members of the public either do not want to interfere with first responders at such a scene or just don’t want to get involved. Thank goodness Mr. Millelot is not one of those people. His quick actions were vital in helping this motorist to get needed medical treatment much sooner than if we had to wait to extricate him. I commend his actions and sincerely thank him on behalf of the police department for all he did” said Chief Anthony G. Manna
