The local police department is responsible for issuing firearms identification cards, permits to purchase handguns and handgun carry permits to Fairfield residents. All of these permits are issued by the Chief of Police after detectives in the Investigation Section conduct required extensive background investigations, and fingerprint and mental health submissions.
