The Fairfield Police Department has primary police responsibility for two public schools and four private schools located in the jurisdiction. It also has secondary responsibility to a regional junior and senior high school where Fairfield students attend. School security remains a major concern for law enforcement throughout the country. The School Security Unit, in conjunction with the leadership of each of the schools, continually conducts threat assessment to assure the utmost safety of the school is maintained. They also work closely in the planning and implementation of mandated drills throughout the year. In addition, officers from this unit teach the Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) program to 5th grade students.
