Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Andrea Evangelista (42), of Belleville, NJ for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash that occurred on May 17, 2023.  On that date at approximately 7:01 pm, Fairfield officers were dispatched to Fairfield Road at the intersection of Spielman Road for a one-car motor vehicle crash.  Officer David DeCarlo investigated the crash and while speaking with Evangelista, who was the only occupant of the car, he allegedly observed signs and symptoms consistent with someone who may be under the influence, which included confusion, and slow and slurred speech.  Further testing was conducted on-scene and Evangelista was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing.  The vehicle was impounded pursuant to NJ law.

Corporal James High, a certified drug recognition expert, conducted additional testing at police headquarters.  Evangelista was charged with driving while intoxicated and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.  Evangelista was issued several additional motor vehicle summonses and was later released pending a June 1, 2023 appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(It should be noted that the charges are merely allegations and that there is a presumption of innocence until Evangelista either pleads guilty or isfound guilty in a court of law)
