Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Emmanuel Adepo, (42) of Bloomfield, N.J. for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence on April 22, 2022. On that date, at approximately 11:43 PM, the Fairfield Police Department was contacted by a citizen reporting a possible drunken driver travelling north on Two Bridges Road towards Wayne, N.J.. The caller described the vehicle as a silver Honda SUV.
Officer Rick Alves located the suspect vehicle on Two Bridges Road near the LaQuinta hotel. It is alleged that the vehicle failed to maintain its lane while the officer was behind it. The vehicle was then stopped on Fairfield Road in Wayne. The driver and lone occupant was Adepo. It is alleged that while the officer was speaking with Adepo, he displayed signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence to include the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, slow and slurred speech and fumbling through his vehicle documents and wallet. It is alleged that Adepo denied consuming any alcoholic beverages during the evening. Based upon the totality of the circumstances, field sobriety was attempted to be administered, however, Adepo was unable to complete them.
At this point, he was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for breath testing. His vehicle was impounded pursuant to New Jersey law. While at headquarters, it is alleged that Adepo failed to submit to the required breath tests. In addition to being charged with driving under the influence, he was also charged with refusal to submit to a breath test along with five additional motor vehicle violations. He was eventually released on his own recognizance pending an initial hearing in the Fairfield Municipal Court.
(It should be noted that the charges against Adepo are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law) Authorized by: Chief Anthony Manna
