Elizabeth Woman Arrested For Theft From Target, Providing False Information

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Estefania Veliz-Bonilla (31) of Elizabeth, NJ for shoplifting on January 30, 2023.  Target Asset Protection officers contacted the police department to advise they had detained a shoplifter.  It is alleged that Veliz-Bonilla pushed a shopping cart with miscellaneous items valued at approximately $658.00, past the registers and out of the store without paying.  She was detained by Target Asset Protection at that time.

Corporal Jeffrey Dean and Officer Katrina Guevara were dispatched and met with Target Asset Protection.  Veliz-Bonilla was placed under arrest and transported back to police headquarters.  While officers were attempting to obtain her identity, it is alleged that Veliz-Bonilla provided officers with a false name.

In addition to the shoplifting charges, Veliz-Bonilla was also charged with hindering her own apprehension.  She was eventually transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark pending an initial court appearance.

(It should be noted that the charges against Veliz-Bonilla are merely allegations and that she is presumed innocent until she either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
