Fairfield Fire Department Battles Garage Fire in Bitter Cold

Fairfield (NJ) On January 29, 2021, at approximately 1:42 PM, the Fairfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an active fire in a detached garage located at 8 Colt Street. The Fairfield Fire Department was immediately dispatched. First responding officers discovered a working structure fire inside of a detached garage that was located within only a few feet of the main home.


The Fairfield Fire Department, assisted by firefighters from West Caldwell and North Caldwell, were able to extinguish the blaze in approximately an hour. One Fairfield firefighter received a minor injury and refused hospitalization. Responding to the scene was an Atlantic Healthcare ambulance and the West Essex First Aid Squad. Firefighters from the Pine Brook and Caldwell Fire Departments stood by at Fairfield’s fire station to attend to any other calls that might need service.


A preliminary investigation indicated that it appears the fire was accidental but is still under investigation.
