Fairfield (NJ) At last report, a 58 year old male from Wayne was recovering at an area hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack while at Hollywood Pizza on Fairfield Road. On June 7, 2019, at approximately 2:02 P.M., all available Fairfield officers were dispatched to the pizzeria for an unresponsive male. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim was not breathing and had no pulse. CPR was already being done by a private citizen.
At this point, the officers took over care of the victim and continued CPR and also by attaching an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and shocking the victim one time. While on scene, the victim regained a pulse. Officers continued to assist the victim with respirations. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson, N.J.
“This incident highlights the importance of starting CPR as quickly as possible for anyone experiencing a medical emergency where their heart and breathing stops. I commend the outstanding work of our officers, as well as that of the citizen who initiated CPR before the arrival of the police. It is because of all their efforts that the victim is alive today” said Chief
