Fairfield Police Pursue Target Shoplifting Suspect

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department is actively investigating a shoplifting incident which resulted in a motor vehicle pursuit with the suspect successfully eluding police on Sunday morning January 26, 2020.

On this date, at approximately 8:30 AM, the Fairfield Police Department were contacted by asset protection officers from the Target store, located on Route 46 East, after they confronted a shoplifter who attempted to push out approximately $660.00 worth of merchandise without paying. After being confronted it is alleged that the suspect, a tall, older black male, ran to a gray Honda Pilot with tinted windows, and then fled onto Route 46 East.

Upon being advised of this, Officer Nicholas Cocchi located the suspect vehicle travelling east on Route 46 and attempted to stop vehicle. The Honda continued to attempt to elude the officer by increasing his speed and with evasive driving. Based upon the circumstances, the pursuit was terminated by Fairfield police. Other law enforcement agencies did engage the vehicle but, at this time, it successfully eluded apprehension.

“The department is presently working on some investigative leads and I am confident that charges will be filed against the suspect soon and that he will be arrested” said Chief Anthony G. Manna.
