Hackensack Resident Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated Following Motor Vehicle Stop

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announce the arrest of Eleni Zambas (25), of Hackensack, NJ for Driving While Intoxicated on April 27, 2023. On that date at approximately 12:33 am, Sergeant Steven Ptaszynski was patrolling Bloomfield Avenue when he observed a silver Honda Civic exit from 1275 Bloomfield Avenue at a high rate of speed. As he tried to catch up to the vehicle, it is alleged the Honda continued onto Route 46 East and accelerated at speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle also allegedly could not maintain its lane.

Corporal Steven D’Argenio was also on Route 46 East and assisted Sergeant Ptaszynski with stopping the vehicle. Zambas was determined to be the driver and only occupant. It is alleged that while speaking to Zambas, Sergeant Ptaszynski detected an order of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Zambas’ breath. Sergeant Ptaszynski also observed Zambas to have bloodshot, watery eyes and Zambas allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. Based on the totality, Sergeant Ptaszynski conducted field sobriety testing. Once the testing was complete, Zambas was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded pursuant to NJ Law.

Zambas was transported to headquarters for processing where breath samples were provided for testing purposes and the results were found to be above the legal limit. In addition to be charged with driving while intoxicated, Zambas received several motor vehicle summonses. Zambas was later released pending a May 4, 2023 appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court.

(It should be noted that the charges are merely allegations and that there is a presumption of innocence until Zambas either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
