Little Falls Resident Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated Following Motor Vehicle Stop

Fairfield (NJ) – The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Estefano Caporal-Garcia (21) of Little Falls, NJ for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on August 12, 2023.  On that date at approximately 3:01 am, police headquarters received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible intoxicated driver located at the Fairfield McDonalds.  A vehicle and driver description were provided to police dispatch.  A short time later Officer James Ciampi arrived and located a vehicle matching that description on the shoulder of Route 46 East.  It is alleged that as the officer pulled behind the vehicle, he observed the driver, who matched the caller’s description, standing outside of the driver’s door urinating on the roadway.

Officer Ciampi contacted the driver, Caporal-Garcia, and while speaking with him it is alleged that he displayed signs and symptoms consistent with someone who is under the influence, to include slurred speech as well as the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, field sobriety testing was conducted.  Caporal-Garcia was subsequently placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.  An empty, open 24-ounce container of Corona beer was allegedly located inside the vehicle.  The vehicle was impounded per New Jersey law.

Caporal-Garcia was transported to headquarters for processing, where it is alleged his blood alcohol contentwas above the legal limit.  In addition to being charged with driving while intoxicated, Caporal-Garcia was also charged with having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, urinating in public, and several additional motor vehicle violations.  Caporal-Garcia was later released pending an initial appearance at the Fairfield Municipal Court on August 24, 2023.

(Charges are merely allegations until the defendant is proven guilty or pleads guilty in a court of law).
