Pair Found in Stolen Jitney are Arrested

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Volodymyr Shust (29) of Montville, N.J. and Veronica Buitrago (33) of Hackensack, N.J. for receiving stolen property and joyriding on September 12, 2022. On that date, at approximately 12:46 AM, officers were alerted, via the department’s automated license plate reading system, that a stolen 2011 AME jitney style bus was traveling east on Route 46 in Fairfield. Officer John Seragusa spotted the suspected stolen vehicle.

He followed the vehicle for a short period before it turned into the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn, located at 286 Route 46 East. At this time, other officers arrived and both suspects were arrested without incident. It is alleged that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Newark, N.J. on September 8, 2022.

In addition to the previously listed charges, Shust was also charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were transported to the Essex County Jail pending a hearing in the Superior Court in Newark, N.J.

(It should be noted that the charges against both are merely allegations and that both are presumed innocent until they either plead guilty or are found guilty in a court of law)
