Fairfield (NJ) It is with deep sadness and regret that the department announces the passing of former Officer Kevin M. Osterberg, Esq. Mr. Kevin M. Osterberg died on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at his home in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He was 66 years old.
Kevin was a member of BSA Troop 6 in Caldwell, where he was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He worked on the summer camp staff at Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah, NJ and as a lifeguard at Crane’s Westville Swim Club in West Caldwell. He also was a member of the West Essex First Aid Squad.
After graduation from college, he served with the Fairfield, NJ Police Department before transferring to the Pasadena, CA Police Department, where he flew patrol from the department helicopter.
Kevin returned to college, graduating from Southwestern Law School with his law degree in 1988. He started in the Los Angeles office of Haight, Brown & Bonesteel, rising to Senior Partner and most recently, served as Managing Partner of the Riverside office. With his law enforcement background, he spent most of his career representing municipalities and first responders. He was also well known in the area of employment discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination. In addition to his litigation practice, Kevin served as an administrative hearing officer for public entity employment matters and as a mediator for the San Bernardino County Superior Court.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Osterberg, Eric Osterberg and Stephen Osterberg and his wife, Alex; his sister, Linda Smith; his nephews, Sean Connolly, Christopher Connolly, Riley Connolly and his nieces, Deanna Connolly, and Madison Connolly.
