Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announce the arrest of Darlyne Edwards (62) of East Orange, N.J. and Lakiesha Herrill (50) of Newark, N.J. for shoplifting on June 8, 2021. On that date, at approximately 1:49 PM, Target asset protection officers contacted the police department to report a shoplifting incident that was in progress. It is alleged that Herrill pushed baby formula, valued at approximately $389.00, past the registers and out the doors of the store without paying. She then entered 2006 Volvo.
Officers Ryan Cleary and John Seragusa were immediately dispatched and found the vehicle. It is alleged that Target officers positively identified Herrill as the suspect and that the officers recovered the stolen formula. During the course of the investigation, it is alleged that it was discovered that Edwards, who was also found in the Volvo, had just stolen approximately $596.00 worth of clothing. In addition, officers recovered a small glass pipe believed to be associated with the ingestion of controlled dangerous substances. Both individuals were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.
In addition to the shoplifting charge, Edwards was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were eventually transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark pending an initial appearance in the Superior Court.
(It should be noted that the charges against both are merely allegations and that she is presumed innocent until she either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
