Traffic Violation Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

Fairfield (NJ) The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Najee Moore (25) of Newark, N.J. for receiving stolen property and hindering apprehension on September 23, 2021. On that date, at approximately 9:54 PM, Officer Patrick Reynolds was monitoring traffic on Two Bridges Road when he observed a 2003 black Infinity traveling south allegedly with tinted windows, in violation of New Jersey law. The vehicle was displaying a New Jersey temporary registration. The officer then initiated a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of the Wawa located on Passaic Avenue. He approached the vehicle and discovered that Moore was the driver.

The officer requested Moore’s driving credentials to which he allegedly replied that he did not have them. It is alleged that Moore initially identified himself as Tamir Cooper. The officer continued his investigation which led to the discovery that the temporary registration was actually registered to a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and not an Infinity. The officer went further and conducted a computer inquiry of the vehicle identification number (VIN) displayed in the front window. This led to the discovery that the Infinity had been reported stolen in Irvington, N.J. on August 31, 2021. Moore and a second individual in the vehicle were then taken into custody and eventually transported to police headquarters.

Investigation eventually led to the discovery of Moore’s identification. In addition to the criminal charges, Moore was also charged with five motor vehicle violations to include having a suspended driver’s license and fictitious plates. He was eventually transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, N.J. The investigation also revealed that there was not sufficient evidence to charge the passenger of the car with any violations of law and they were released from custody.

(It should be noted that the charges against Moore are merely allegations and that he is presumed innocent until he either pleads guilty or is found guilty in a court of law)
